Keys to training well

So you want to improve your image, get fitter, be stronger or just become a better martial artist?

You do? Awesome - so how do you go about it? What should you do to achieve your goals?

Have diets and training programs failed in the past? Do you know why?

These are a collection of tips and advice I consider essential to your training and overall well-being:

  • SET GOALS AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Everyone has the ability to change their lives for the better. You have the power to change - you have to believe in yourself! Positive self-talk is crucial to reaching your potential. Set goals; set achievable goals; then set bigger goals. Set short-term and long-term goals. It's important from the very beginning and throughout your training to experience victory in each and every workout. Don't set your sites too high too early. You won't be able to look like Arnie or be world champion in a few weeks. Determine the methods of achieving your goals and identify problems that may occur - and how you plan to deal with them.

Never forget why you want to improve! It's your life remember!

  • PLAN PROPERLY

Order your training sessions appropriately throughout the week - allow enough recovery time between similar sessions. Order each training session appropriately - include a warm-up and cool-down. I would suggest: chest, shoulders, back, arms, legs, before finishing with mid-section (core/abs).

  •  COMMITMENT

If you want to improve, you'll have to stick at it. There is no substitute for time and effort. Just as you shouldn't plan to go on a diet, you shouldn't plan on a short fitness routine either. Make lifestyle changes - and then stick to them! Changing is not going to be easy, but it can be achieved with discipline and persistence and determination!

  • ENTHUSIASM

Your training must not become drudgery or a chore that has to be done. This is negative energy, producing negative results and must be willfully resisted. Keep a positive attitude, keep your training sessions interesting - have energetic music playing! Learn to love the feeling you get from a good hard session!
