FOUR SIMPLE STEPS TO BECOMING ALL THAT YOU HOPE TO BE
Think of yourself as the
person you would like to be and imagine, if you became this pe
One great thing about being human is that we are able to become whom-ever we wish. Whether it be more confident, happier, more disciplined, more motivated, more successful etc, take comfort in knowing there are simple steps that if followed daily, almost guarantee you will become all you hope to be.
In part 1, I will cover the steps one and two. I hope you read this article over at least twice and implement these two steps into your daily life.
STEP 1: VISUALISATION
The first and perhaps most powerful step to personal change is visualisation. It is interesting to know that our visual images become our reality. They intensify our desires and deepen our beliefs. They increase our willpower and build our persistence. They are enormously powerful.
There are four elements to visualisation and an increase in any one of them will accelerate the rate at which you see the visualisation become a reality. These are:
1. Frequency. How often you visualize a particular future event, goal or behaviour has a powerful impact on your thinking, feeling and behaviour. The frequency with which you visualize not only tells you how much you want to realise that picture, but also intensifies your desires and your belief that it is achievable.
2. Vividness. This refers to the clarity with which you see something in your imagination. The clearer the image in your mind, the deeper your motivation and belief levels become and therefore the sooner the goal is achieved.
3. Intensity. This refers to the amount of emotion that you combine with your mental pictures. When you intensely desire something and become enthusiastic about it, the process of bringing it into reality transpires far more rapidly.
4. Duration. This refers to the length of time you can hold the picture of what you want in your mind. The longer you imagine something, the more likely it is to affect your behaviour and belief and the sooner the goal comes to fruition.
When you combine the elements of frequency, vividness, intensity and duration with your visualisation, the process of realising this goal (whether it be a goal of having, being or doing) is accelerated.
STEP 2: AFFIRMATION
The second step to achieving a healthier mental attitude is affirmation. Affirmations are based on the ‘Three P Principle’. This is - Positive, Present tense and Personal. They are strong statements or commands from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind.
They override old information and reinforce new positive habits of thought and behavior. For example, an affirmation such as “I like myself” is positive, present tense and personal. When you repeat it continually, it is eventually accepted as a valid description of the reality you desire. You actually begin to feel better about yourself in everything you do. This affirmation soon overrides old data you may have taken that is inconsistent with high self-esteem.
With affirmations, your potential is unlimited. Strong, affirmative statements emotionalised and repeated with conviction often bring about immediate personality changes. You can increase your enthusiasm, boost your courage, assert control over your emotions and build your self-esteem by repeating statements that are consistent with the person you want to be.
Next I will move onto steps three and four. Till then, continue working on the power of Visualisation and Affirmation.
